Happy Birthday to Me

Happy Birthday to Me !

Harry's day June 15

Harry's day

June 15, 1941 is the day Harry Edward Nilsson III was born in Brooklyn, New York City at Bushwick Hospital.

Well in 1941 a happy father had a son
And by 1944 the father walked right out the door
And in '45, the mom and son were still alive
But who could tell in '46 if the two were to survive

Well the years were passing quickly
But not fast enough for him
So he closed his eyes through '55
And then he opened them up again
When he looked around he saw a clown
And the clown seemed very gay
And he set that night to join that circus clown and run away

Well he followed every railroad track
And every highway sign
And he had a girl in each new town
And the towns he left behind
And the open road
Was the only road he knew
But the color of his dreams
Was slowly turning into blue

Then he met a girl, the kind of girl
He wanted all his life
She was soft and kind and good to him
So he took her for his wife
And they got a house not far from town
And in a little while
The girl had seen the doctor
And she came home with a smile

Disc and Music Echo Jan. 72

The truth about Harry...

Lennon calls him his favorite American performer
(as he proclaimed at the Apple press conference on May 14, 1968)
yet many people still know little about this ex bank employee...

This paper (Disc and Music Echo - January 8, 1972) shows Harry's
new beard look and comes back in full details to Harry's early work.
A great featuring in British music-press for this American artist
who is in the spotlight since Nilsson Schmilsson has come
to record stores two months earlier.

Harry speaks also of the forthcoming LP
that would come out at the end of that year...

without knowing it will be called Son Of Schmilsson.

For this British music-paper issue at the beginning of year 72,
Harry has the honor of a double page featuring his success on British TV
broadcast of both "In Concert" documentary (with no audience)
and "The Point" cartoon film on the same day,
on New Year’s Day, 1972.

One of these photographs was used for Eye Magazine in Dec, 1968
about Harry and his house in LA among other pop stars
living in the same area.

At Home With Los Angeles' Pop Stars
"Harry Nilsson spends most of his time at the piano
in his Laurel Canyon home, composing the songs that recently
have gained him so much attention. A modern, dark-paneled place,
his home perches on stills overlooking the canyon.
On the piano sits his favorite possession, a hand-crank 1905 Victor
Talking Machine with a laminated oak bell".

Later used by MOJO magazine for a great 7 page article issue
of April 2008 titled Little Boy Lost.

Notice that those photos are reversed from the original shooting.

Harry & Nipper Shadow Show

Harry & Nipper Shadow Show

Early 1967, Harry signed a three-year contract with RCA.
Since then, Nipper, the iconic little fox terrier of the label,
has always been on his side.

During 10 years, from Pandemonium Shadow Show to Knnillssonn,
you can find Nipper listening intently to a wind-upan
early gramophone on each of his record label.
From an original painting of Francis Barraud in 1898
called His Master’s Voice, this picture quickly become the most famous
trademark in the world, and Nipper the most famous dog in the world.

And like Harry used to say:

If only I could have a puppy, I'd call myself so very lucky
Just to have some company to share a cup of tea with me.
I'd take my puppy everywhere, la la la la I wouldn't care
Then we'll stay away from crowds with signs that say no dogs allowed.
Oh wee... I know he'd never bite me, wee... I know he'd never bite me.
Oh wee...we'd be so happy to be... wee...we'd be so happy to be together.
